3775 – Winter Solstice

3775 –  Winter Solstica Acrylic on Canvas 10 x 8 inches The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still) because at the solstices the Sun’s declination appears to ‘stand still’. According to Forever Conscious, “The winter solstice celebrates the longest hours of darkness or the rebirth of the sun and is believed to hold a powerful energy for regeneration, renewal and self-reflection. In Pagan times the winter solstice was referred to as Yule and was a celebration of the Goddess (Moon). I chose colours to reflect the mystical and self-relective qualities for this time of year. 3764 – Imagine

3764 – Imagine Acrylic on Canvas 20 x 16 inches, Unframed SOLD     This painting was inspired by the poem The Season of Phantasmal Peace by Derek Walcott. I imagined the birds of the earth desperately trying to save the world from extinction. I simplified the concept with one bird and the focus of world peace and cooperation in protecting our resources. The title came to me one day when listening to John Lennon’s, Imagine.   Share and Enjoy...

3753 – Heart Strings Acrylic skins & Mixed media on Canvas 14 x 11 inches, Framed               What pulls at your heartstrings? Our hearts are our most sensitive organ, responding to every emotion we feel. While creating acrylic skins for an art show, a heart-shaped skin from my paint palette provided the initial inspiration for this painting. I added more heart-shaped pieces to represent the people and things we love, and a fine raffia for the strings that intersect and connect them all. Heart strings are those things that powerfully affect our emotions and reference our deepest feelings of love and compassion. Share and...

3750 – Autumn Apparition: Embrace

3750 – Autumn Apparition: Embrace Acrylic Skins on Canvas 40 x 30 inches, Framed                 My love of trees is evident in many of my paintings, so it was no surprise when one in a friend’s garden provided inspiration for Autumn Apparition. The tree has two intertwined trunks so when viewed at a certain angle one tree appears to hold the other in an embrace. Using the tree as my starting point, I decided on a fall scene filled with warm colours reflecting love and affection. Then the idea came to add in the silhouette of a couple who had spent time in the forest, leaving behind their energy. To create the trees in the...

3681 – Forest in Transition

3681 –  Forest in Transition 20 x 30 inches, framed Acrylic on Canvas   In Muskoka, Cedars grow in abundance. When they age-out and fall to the ground, the remaining stumps continue to decay as they provide nutrients to feed tree saplings that shoot up around them. But before this transition occurs, they create magical structures that stir my imagination. I visualize a kingdom of elfin creatures living within these moss-covered towers of greying wood. The photos I took of these natural architectural wonders served as my inspiration.   Share and Enjoy...
