ARTrail Muskoka PURPLE BANNER

Last fall I was approached by a local artist, Bonnie Bews, with an idea of promoting more Muskoka artists to the public. A small group of us gathered to discuss a way to make this happen and ARTrail Muskoka PURPLE BANNER was born. This year we have 54 artists on the trail crating a year-round, self-guided art tour for the public with the publication of a full-colour brochure listing the participating art studios and artist run galleries. The brochure is arranged by areas with a map that provides each business location. Our pamphlets can be picked up throughout Muskoka after we are clear of the COVID-19 crisis and businesses reopen.

The 2020 Brochure is available online!

Each Art Studio / Artist-run gallery will display a Purple Banner placed in front of their location when they are open. When the PURPLE BANNER is out, the artist is in!

Current & Upcoming Art Shows

Federation of Canadian Artists – Online Exhibition – 2020 Social Distancing

With everyone stuck at home, the Federation of Canadian Artists sent out a call to artists to submit work created during the period of social distancing that exemplify beauty, joy and/or humour. 292 pieces were juried into the exhibition from international artists. The exhibit runs from April 10 – 30, 2020 on the FCA website. To view the work, click this link .

Forest Commune is my entry in the show.

Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas

40 x 30 inches

Today, the world has been driven to its knees by a microscopic virus (COVID-19), equalizing humanity. It’s resulted in more communication around the planet, greater appreciation of relationships and allowed us time to reflect and recognize the value of all life on the planet, to learn from the rhythms, patterns and cycles of the natural world about interdependence, cooperation and the value of all living creatures. In this period of social isolation, the earth has begun to breath deeper and we’ve been given the  opportunity to work together for a common cause.

Forest Commune provides a glimpse into the hidden life of trees as they communicate with each other both in the forest canopy and underground in the network of mycelium that links even  mixed species to support and nurture one another. The woodpecker symbolizes our need to be connected to the earthand one another.

Brown Baggers Painting Group Spring Show – Cancelled due to COVID-19

Meditation – Water Lilies on Cache Lake, Algonquin Park  was my entry in the Brown Baggers Show and Sale that was to be held at Muskoka Place Gallery 1182 Foreman Rd., Port Carling, Ontario

Meditation was inspired by the beautiful water lilies along the shoreline of Cache Lake in Algonquin Park. Water lilies remind me of Lotus flowers so I titled the painting, Meditations. I added a frog gazing at the flower, mezmerized by its beauty, to add a touch of the unexpected and a little bit of fun.

24th Annual International Women’s Day Show

Forest in Transition is one of over 130 pieces of art in the 24th Annual International Women’s Day Show at the Orillia Museum of Art and History from February 8 – April 12, 2020.

In celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8), the show’s goal is to encourage women to express themselves artistically in a themed group exhibit, which is not juried and therefore inclusive.

The spirit if the exhibition is one of affirmation and co-operation.

The female artists participating in this year’s show come from diverse backgrounds, are of all ages (teenage and up) and levels of artistic experience. Most of the artists live in the region, although the show is open to any female artist.

The wide range of media in the exhibit includes works in oil, acrylic and watercolour, as well as mixed media, printmaking, photography, sculpture, fibre arts and video production.

This year, over 130 artists are sharing their art and stories, interpreting the theme “ON THE EDGE”.
