I knew the death of that little creature would inspire more than one painting. In Hiding and Safe Place are the first of, I’m sure, many to come. These two paintings were created for an annual charity art sale here in Muskoka.  MARTIN’S, a Bracebridge, Ontario framing, art supply and gallery, provides local artists with 6 x 6 inch canvases to create whatever inspires them. Proceeds of the sale went directly (through the Stephen Lewis Foundation) to support African Grandmothers raising children orphaned by Aids. In this painting I depict an African Grandmother, carrying her infant grandchild and a basket of Canadian pennies, walking into the bright sun, with her heart filled with hope for the future.
